INCI Best Practices for Cosmetics Labeling
Getting INCI right on the label matters for compliance and consumer trust. Here’s how to stay on top of best practices.
Order and concentration
Ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration. Ingredients under 1% can be listed in any order after the main list. Some regions require specific formatting or disclosure of certain ingredients.
Allergens and disclosure
Many markets require disclosure of potential allergens (e.g. fragrance allergens in the EU). Software that parses and validates INCI can flag missing or incorrect allergen disclosure.
Keeping lists up to date
INCI names and regulations evolve. Use a formulation platform that helps you maintain correct nomenclature and update labels when requirements change.
